Program Officer

The Golden LEAF Foundation seeks an individual familiar with organizations and issues related to Golden LEAF's mission and funding priorities. The program officer will assist the Foundation in designing and implementing policies and procedures for grantsmaking and other program related activities of the Foundation.

The successful candidate must have knowledge of the nonprofit sector and how it operates, an ability to evaluate funding requests and strong writing, research and interpersonal skills. Additionally, the candidate should have the ability to use a grants management database system (preferably MicroEdge GIFTS).

The Program Officer works closely with and reports directly to the VP of Programs. The primary responsibilities of the Program Officer are to assist the VP of Programs and Vice President of Community Assistance and Outreach with implementation of grant programs and special initiatives of the Foundation and coordination of grant monitoring and compliance activities. The Program Officer works collaboratively with other program staff. Functions performed by the Program Officer include:

  1. Grant compliance and monitoring
    • Monitor grants compliance through site visits, research and analysis, and review of reports.
    • Coordinate compliance matters with senior programs staff for appropriate action.
    • Process Interim and Final Reports and requests for payment.
    • Review modification requests, make recommendations for actions to the senior programs staff, and provide written correspondence to grantees communicating approvals or denials, and other matters.
    • Schedule and perform site visits with grantees for the purposes of monitoring project activity and collecting anecdotal and supporting evidence of project impact.
    • Research and collect economic and community impact data to share with the senior programs staff for distribution to constituents of the Foundation and for communications and outreach purposes.


  2. Assist with implementing the annual grants cycle, economic catalyst grants program and other grant activities of the foundation.
    • Conduct program research.
    • Evaluate proposals - Communicate with grantees, complete due diligence, and develop, with other program staff, draft recommendations and conditions for consideration by the board,
    • Write proposal summaries, conditions, recommendations and other program materials for distribution to the board.
    • Assist with planning and coordination of the evaluation process for grants programs, including identifying external reviewers, preparing and distributing materials to reviewers and board members, arranging logistics for meeting and follow-up activities.
    • Work with the program staff to notify applicants of board decisions (rejection and approval letters, grantee agreements, requests for additional information, etc.)
    • Assist the senior program staff in responding to any questions or requests for information.
    • Participate in outreach and program related activities that further the mission of the Foundation.
    • Identify possible opportunities for strategic initiatives by the Foundation and share with senior staff.

    The Program Officer should have exceptional organizational and administrative skills, and be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The abilities to plan, set goals and objectives, organize and follow through are critical to success.

    Requirements

    Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and significant experience working with governmental, nonprofit sector or grantsmaking entities.
