Rocky Mount, North Carolina
The Golden LEAF Foundation Board of Directors seeks a President with a passion for transforming North Carolina's tobacco-dependent and economically distressed counties; experience working with a highly engaged and active board; knowledge of North Carolina's political landscape; insight in the issues affecting rural communities; demonstrated leadership and management; expertise engaging a diverse constituency; and financial competency.
The President's Roles and Responsibilities include:
Statewide Leadership
- Passion, vision and commitment to positively affect the long-term economic advancement of the state's tobacco dependent and economically distressed counties;
- A relationship builder comfortable with state and local politics and government, the legislative process, economic development organizations, the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors, universities and community colleges and state agencies;
- Collegial working relationships with complementary state agencies;
- Collaborator and convener of representatives of the affected counties;
- Intelligent, articulate, accessible, active listener able to grasp complex concepts quickly;
- Understands the capacity, resources and leadership in rural North Carolina;
- Comfortable originating new and creative ways to solve problems;
- Able to transform influential connections into action.
Partnership with the Board of Directors
- Empowers an active and engaged Board to achieve the Foundation's mission;
- Facilitates strategic vision and implements strategies for meaningful investments of the Foundation's assets.
- Identifies and informs the Board of statewide issues and future trends to transform the economic development of affected counties;
- Presents consistent, reliable and methodical communication to the Board;
- Advocates for the staff;
- Implements Board policies and decisions;
- Effectively harnesses the Board's time and energy;
- Supports the Board in meeting strategic goals;
- Capitalizes on Board members' skills and talents.
Grantmaking, Strategic Initiatives and Investments
- Demonstrates expertise and oversight of strategic program areas and initiatives;
- Understands the Foundation's grant making focus areas (for example, in agriculture, job creation and retention and workforce preparedness, educational and community assistance projects);
- Achieves targeted, results oriented outcomes;
- Identifies proactive and reactive grantmaking opportunities;
- Collaborates with the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors;
- Intentional about the future growth of the Foundation;
Financial, Administrative and Personnel Management
- Oversees financial, personnel and administrative management;
- Demonstrates a high degree of business and financial literacy and integrity;
- Values, inspires, engages and motivates professional staff;
- Ensures that staff operates and performs as a team;
- Works with legal counsel to assure compliance;
- Exerts flexibility and is adaptable to change;
- Holds staff accountable for their actions;
Communication and Public Relations
- Enhances the Golden LEAF Foundation's visibility and public image;
- Demonstrates exceptional written and oral communication skills;
- Communicates, articulates and advances the Foundation's mission, programs and initiatives;
- Maintains close relationships with the state's media;
- Builds strong community relationships through intrinsic interpersonal skills;
- Effectively utilizes public relations partners;
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, advanced degree preferred;
- Ten to fifteen years of quality executive experience;
- Energetic with proven leadership and public service;
- Demonstrated record of successful accomplishments;
- Deep knowledge and understanding of rural North Carolina;
- Experience with North Carolina's legislative process and government operations;
- Willingness to relocate to Rocky Mount area;
- Available for extensive statewide travel;
