Golden LEAF News - March 2009
Greetings! The Golden LEAF Foundation has taken bold action and developed new strategies to help strengthen the economy in North Carolina’s tobacco-dependent, economically distressed, and rural communities. One of Golden LEAF’s new initiatives is the Golden LEAF Opportunities for Work (GLOW) program. GLOW will support vocational and technical training for North Carolina’s workforce to help get them into jobs fast. The Foundation has earmarked $3.5 million for the initiative, and application deadlines are April 30, June 30 and August 31. Golden LEAF president visits Kinston Kinston Free Press Dan Gerlach discusses plans to start the Golden LEAF Community Assistance Initiative in Lenoir County and the role the aerospace industry plays in the surrounding area. Golden Leaf OKs $2M for Camden water plant The Daily Advance Golden LEAF awarded Camden County over $1.9 million in its Community Assistance Initiative to Camden County’s priority project addressing infrastructure needs. The benefits of sharing Surry Messenger The Surry Messenger describes Surry County’s journey through the Golden LEAF Community Assistance Initiative. The county recently received just over $2 million in awards to support workforce training and infrastructure needs. ASAP launches farm-to-hospital program MountainX Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) is launching a Farm to Hospital pilot program, funded in part by a Golden LEAF grant. The project aims to both improve public health and sustain local farms. Northampton studies LEAF funds Roanoke-Chowan News Herald Golden LEAF will be starting its Community Assistance Initiative in Northampton County.
