Mike Easley’s top fiscal advisor before recently being named the head of the Rocky Mount-based foundation, said Nash and Edgecombe counties have a lot of selling points for advanced manufacturers in aerospace, biotechnology or automotive part manufacturing. PMH wins $400K Golden LEAF grant Roxboro Courier TimesGolden LEAF provided a $400,000 grant to Person Memorial Hospital for the purchase of equipment for its new emergency and surgical services departments. The new hospital equipment adds to the hospital’s expansion that will create 23 new jobs and provide better access to medical care. Magazine deems North Carolina best state for business The Daily Tar Heel Golden LEAF has contributed grant dollars to aid in training and locating jobs to North Carolina which helped get North Carolina selected as the top business climate in the country, even in times of economic distress. Site Selection Magazine recently named North Carolina as the top state for the seventh time in eight years. Camden in line for $2M grant The Daily Advance Camden County is in line for a $2 million grant for economic development. The funding is being made available to Camden and other rural, economically disadvantaged counties as part of the Golden LEAF Foundation’s Community Assistance Initiative. Spirit of ExpansionSite Selection Magazine A former Boeing division widens its 'global footprint' in Eastern North Carolina. Golden LEAF awarded a $100 million grant to support this effort. The ground is set for Aviation Research and Development Commerce Park ECSU Headlines Golden LEAF provided $2 million to the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Aviation Research and Development Commerce Park. The park will generate 500 well-paying, aviation-related jobs to Elizabeth City and Pasquotank County. Increasing Entrepreneurship in Agriculture in an Economically Depressed Region Journal of ExtensionThe article describes the purpose, conception, development, implementation, and evaluation of a series of workshops to support small/medium farms in a five-county area of northeastern North Carolina. The workshops, under a grant by the Golden LEAF Foundation, were to spur entrepreneurship within a rural, economically depressed region and implemented by an alliance of the Pasquotank County Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and the School of Business & Economics at Elizabeth City State University. Columbus County farmers market to benefit from $70,000 grant The Fayetteville Observer A $70,000 grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation will allow the Columbus County Community Farmers Market to hire its first full-time manager, marketing consultant. Start-up funding for three years will allow the manager to work for three cooperating organizations in southeastern North Carolina — the Columbus County Community Farmers Market, the Columbus County Beekeepers Association and the Lumber River Regional Growers Association. *Note - Some links may require log-ins.
