A SPECIAL INVITATION to NORTH CAROLINA LEADERS
info@goldenleaf.org
Golden LEAF Foundation Briefings
We want you to know more about the Golden LEAF Foundation
The Golden LEAF Foundation's purpose is to make grants to public entities and nonprofits that promote long-term economic advancement and lessen the negative economic impact of changes in our tobacco economy.
The Foundation was created in 1999 and is funded entirely by proceeds from the settlement of lawsuits brought against cigarette manufacturers. The Foundation now has completed two grant cycles and made $16 million in grants for 100 projects. Some already are bearing significant fruit. We are receiving requests for funding for the next round of grants that will be announced in early November. The deadline for applying for this grant cycle is Thursday, August 1, 2002. We hope to receive a wide range of creative, forward-looking proposals from across the state.
Golden LEAF may be able to help your community or organization.
Starting Tuesday, May 21, we will conduct briefings for civic, political and nonprofit leaders across North Carolina. I extend a special invitation to you to attend the briefing most convenient for you. We want community leaders, such as you, to know about the Foundation, its mission and priorities. In addition to the option of attending one of the three live briefings, you may attend a teleconference of the North Carolina State University briefing at a site convenient to you. I hope that by meeting with you, we can give you valuable insights into the Foundation and its grant process.
Organizations in all 100 counties are eligible to apply. Please invite anyone else who may
benefit to attend. For more information, please visit our website www.goldenleaf.org or call 1.888.684.8404. There is no registration fee, and no R.S.V.P. is required.
