Golden LEAF extends its Golden LEAF Opportunities for Work (GLOW) deadline
July 23, 2009
Applications due August 7, 2009
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Golden LEAF Foundation is extending its June 30, 2009 application deadline for the Golden LEAF Opportunities for Work (GLOW) program to August 7, 2009. Application materials are available on the Foundation's website.
"At its June Board meeting, the Foundation funded some very promising projects that will prepare people for immediate employment opportunities," said Dan Gerlach, Golden LEAF President. "This is a competitive program with limited funds. In light of the immediate need to assist the state with job creation, we are extending the application deadline for our second round of proposals in the GLOW program. This will allow organizations intending to submit a proposal for the next deadline to apply sooner, so that if funded, programs can start immediately."
GLOW was created to fund short-term, non-degree workforce development training projects that target identified employment opportunities in tobacco-dependent, economically distressed and rural communities. The expected outcome of GLOW projects is the eligibility of trainees for placement in permanent, full-time jobs requiring skills in vocational and trade occupations.
Golden LEAF's GLOW program is working with the State's “12 in 6” project and other workforce training programs to address some of the urgent employment challenges and opportunities North Carolina faces during the current economic downturn.
