Charlotte Region
The Charlotte region is a highly competitive, vibrant area with an increasingly attractive quality of life.
With the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the largest consolidated rail system in the country, the Charlotte region offers high accessibility to a national and international marketplace. A number of major brand-name companies and international manufacturing corporations are located in both its urban and rural counties. It is a cost-competitive region in the same league as much larger metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, GA, Dallas, TX, and Jacksonville, FL. The Charlotte region excels in the industries of health and life sciences, defense and security, and energy and the environment.
But there are challenges. Smaller, rural counties struggle due to a lack of industrial development, modern buildings, and storefronts. Also, in some of the rural counties, education is at a crisis level and poverty abounds. In these rural, economically distressed areas, Golden LEAF has assisted with projects in job creation/retention, tourism, and workforce training.
