Economic Catalyst
The mission of the Golden LEAF Foundation is to assist rural, tobacco dependent communities with economic transition. In the Economic Catalyst program, the Foundation accepts grant applications three times a year that target job creation projects that are “at risk” without Golden LEAF support. Projects are determined to be "at risk" based on a number of factors including: evidence of urgency for assistance necessary to facilitate job creation, demonstrable need, the county's ability to pay, competitive sites in other states being considered, and others. Eligible projects must be in response to a specific economic development project where identifiable job opportunities are at play. Job commitments are required for program eligibility and job targets must provide full-time employment and offer health benefits.
Funds are available for job training and/or infrastructure improvements that meet charitable, tax-exempt, public purposes.

“Through a partnership between the City of Elizabeth City and the Golden LEAF Foundation over the past three years, we have developed our Aviation Research and Development Commerce Park. This Park will create 700 jobs with good wages with the City and our partners. These jobs will give a great boost to the economy of our region.”
- Stephen S. Atkinson, Mayor of Elizabeth City, N.C. |
