Description:

The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to provide a second year of funding to NCSU for the 10% Campaign, which encourages participants to spend 10% of their food dollars on local purchases. The 10% Campaign has more than 3,000 individuals participating representing 89 counties, 258 business partners, and over $3,400,000 in reported local food purchases. Key components of the campaign include a Web site for signing up participants that also includes resources on where to find local foods and collects real-time purchase data; a partnership with the Cooperative Extension Service that has appointed a Local Food Coordinator in each county to assist with the campaign; and the ability and commitment to address barriers to procurement in retail, wholesale, institutional, and direct markets.
