Description:

This Golden LEAF grant will assist Rowan-Cabarrus CC with purchasing multi-axis machining equipment needed by the College to provide advanced skills training demanded by area employers. The College’s service area includes Rowan, Cabarrus and parts of Stanly and Iredell counties. Supported by several small and medium sized companies in the automotive parts, metal fabrication and NASCAR sectors, the college has identified 160 positions that area businesses intend to fill in the next 2 to 3 years. Eighteen companies have provided support letters indicating a willingness to interview graduates and potentially provide internship opportunities for students. Funds will be used to purchase a multi-axis lathe and mill, tooling, tool cabinets, a water jet cutting machine and cover installation costs. In addition to enhanced ability to train at advanced skill levels, the additional equipment will allow the college to enroll more students and increase the number of courses and industry certificates available to students.
