This Golden LEAF grant will provide funds to further assist Blue Ridge CC with a comprehensive upgrade of its Advanced Manufacturing training programs to meet a widening gap between demand and availability of skilled workers in the area. A recent survey (May 2012) by the college identified 20 companies intending to fill 1,300+ production level jobs in the near future. The project will leverage $610,000 from BRCC for equipment and renovations, a prior Duke Energy equipment grant of approximately $240,000 and an additional $50,000 from Transylvania County Schools to create advanced manufacturing labs to train youth and adults in Henderson and Transylvania counties. Funds will be used to upgrade and equip Computer Integrated Machining labs at BRCC and Brevard HS.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
