Bladen County Stream Debris Removal

Organization:
County of Bladen
Amount:
$725,072.00
Program Area:
Disaster Recovery Grant Program
County of Applicant:
Bladen
Year:
2017
Description:

Hurricane Matthew caused extreme flooding of homes and farms in Bladen County. Because of the hurricane, fallen trees and sediment are impeding the flow of water in area streams and rivers. This Golden LEAF grant will support removal of storm debris from county waterways. Removal of trees and debris will allow these channels to flow more freely and reduce future flooding. The Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has previously successfully removed trees and debris and restored and repaired streams in Bladen County following hurricanes. This project will be a cooperative effort with Bladen County Government, Bladen SWCD, Bladen County Emergency Management, and Bladen County Planning Department. Bladen County also received $242,000 from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services that will be used for related debris removal.
