This Golden LEAF grant will provide support to Forsyth Tech (FTCC) along with its partners (Guilford Tech, Randolph Community College, Rockingham Community College, and the Davie Campus of Davidson County Community College) for the purpose of replicating FTCC’s North American Manufacturing Society (NAMS) Endorsed Skills Certification program in Computer Integrated Machining at all area colleges. Forsyth Tech has served as lead institution for a national initiative, funded by the Gates Foundation, to develop consistent curricula and portable skill development through recognized industry certifications in welding and machining. Funds will be used to purchase equipment for lab enhancements and support program improvements to expand the effort to the 4 partner colleges in the Piedmont Triad. Companies in the region have provided support letters identifying 161 jobs along with a recent survey that identifies 200 potential machinist and machine operator positions per year through 2022.
