Connecting Care: The NC TeleHealth Network Program for Non-Profit Healthcare Providers in NC

Organization:
Public Health Authority of Cabarrus County
Amount:
$200,000.00
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:
Orange
Year:
2013
Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide support that will leverage federal Healthcare Connect funding to benefit NC nonprofit healthcare providers, particularly North Carolina’s rural providers, in a statewide, dedicated broadband network. The program will inject an estimated twelve to thirty million dollars in annual federal funds into distressed, rural communities across North Carolina by subsidizing broadband costs for participating healthcare organizations. By facilitating increased broadband use, the project will enhance workforce retention & preparedness, provide cost savings and better access to bandwidth-intensive distance learning, and expand opportunities for healthcare providers to collaborate with peer institutions. This project will leverage experience gained during the earlier Golden LEAF funded FCC Rural Broadband pilot project (a.k.a NC Telehealth Network), scaling up through the use of higher-capacity tracking and project management tools and the addition of staff. Golden LEAF funds will be used for personnel and operating expenses.
