Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Craven County Public Schools to expand career pathways from high school to higher education and/or employment. The program will build upon existing STEM programs at the county middle schools by enhancing training opportunities at West Craven High School that are aligned with local employer skill requirements. West Craven High School will: 1) implement mechatronics and welding curricula that replicate employer environments and result in STEM credit-bearing classes and industry certifications for students; 2) provide professional development for staff; and, 3) engage area employers and higher education partners in curriculum development, mentorships, and instructional planning to better prepare graduates for local employment. Golden LEAF funds will be used to purchase mechatronics and welding equipment and curriculum materials, provide professional development, and cover credential testing costs.
