Duplin County Water System Backup Generators

Organization:
County of Duplin
Amount:
$292,297.17
Program Area:
Disaster Recovery Grant Program
County of Applicant:
Duplin
Year:
2019
Description:

Duplin County operates a county-wide water system serving more than 7,200 customers. Hurricane Florence caused electrical failures that resulted in most of Duplin County being without power for a week. The extended power outages resulted in depletion of available water supply to the water system. As a result of the loss of power and broken water lines, the water system lost pressure and was placed on a boil water advisory. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used to install standby diesel powered generators with automatic transfer switches at three critical wells located in the water system, so the system can operate without interruption during future power outages.
