Description:

The purpose of this grant is to assist Hoke County with the cost of providing water service to two new acute-care hospital facilities and others in the area where the hospitals are locating. FirstHealth of the Carolinas will construct a new 8-bed hospital, creating 60 new full-time jobs, and Hoke Community Medical Center, part of the Cape Fear Valley Health System, will construct a new 41 bed acute care hospital creating 300 new full-time jobs. The total cost of the water improvements is $2 million. The improvements will increase the size of water transmission lines, thereby providing important redundant capacity and additional flow for fire protection to the hospitals. It will also supply additional capacity along the 401 corridor supporting future economic development.
