Infrastructure Improvements Required for the Purpose of Securing a Major New Employer in the City of Asheville

Organization:
City of Asheville
Amount:
$300,000.00
Program Area:
Economic Catalyst Program
County of Applicant:
Buncombe
Year:
2012
Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the City of Asheville for infrastructure improvements necessary to accommodate product distribution of New Belgium Brewing Company (the ‘Company’). The Company will create 130 new jobs paying an average wage of over $52,618 plus benefits by the end of 2019. Production is expected to start in 2015. The project site is in a blighted high poverty area along the French Broad River west of downtown Asheville formerly used as livestock and tobacco markets. Based on existing commuting patterns, the city expects that jobs will be filled by a regional laborshed extending beyond Buncombe County. The infrastructure will serve the entire River District, thereby facilitating future economic opportunities in addition to this project. Golden LEAF funds will help pay for roadway improvements.
