Burke Partnership for Economic Development Inc.
Program Area:
Economic Catalyst
County of Applicant:

This grant provides funding to Burke County Economic Development Corporation to purchase manufacturing equipment to lease to Jackson Paper. Jackson Paper, based in Sylva, NC, is a manufacturer of recycled paper. It is expanding its corrugated cardboard manufacturing capacity by opening a plant in Morganton, NC, which is close to many of the customers that the company supplies. The company has recently opened a similar plant in Dalton, GA, and had also considered Georgia and South Carolina for this expansion. The new plant would create 42 new jobs with an average annual wage of $44,857, nearly $10,000 above the Burke County average. The company will locate the new plant in a building that is currently vacant and will invest $11.2 million in the project.
