Description:

This Golden LEAF grant will allow MARC to purchase equipment necessary to secure a contract with Milliken to manufacture medical clothing from special materials to treat sensitive skin, bed sores, rashes and burns. The increased manufacturing capacity will result in the creation of 26 new jobs and the production of $1.9 million in products during an initial twelve month contract. Haywood Vocational Opportunities and Industrial Opportunities Inc. of Andrews are collaborating in the project. Industrial Opportunities has already invested $127,299 to renovate space for a clean production room and to purchase specialized sewing equipment needed to meet medical requirements. Average wages of the new jobs will exceed $20,200 plus benefits and target disabled and recently dislocated workers.
