Description:

This grant provides funding to North Carolina State University (NCSU) to collaborate with the NC Fresh Produce Safety Task Force and others to deliver training programs that meet the rules and requirements of the new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). FSMA requires baseline food safety training for most farm and food manufacturing operations. FSMA will affect approximately 2,000 farms and 1,900 food-processing facilities across North Carolina. FDA-approved training programs have been developed but the cost to provide training is unfunded. Golden LEAF funds will be used for personnel, travel, communications, and other costs.
