Description:

This grant will support the expansion of Mountaire Farms, Inc., the seventh largest chicken producer in the world, in Siler City. Mountaire Farms previously announced a project in Siler City that involves capital investment of $70 million and creation of 700 jobs. Golden LEAF grant funding will support the addition of another processing line at the Siler City plant and the creation of 645 jobs above the 700 previously announced. The jobs will pay an average annual wage of $25,806. The company had considered locating this line in Delaware, South Carolina or Virginia. The proposed expansion will challenge Siler City’s wastewater treatment plant. This grant will allow the Town to improve and expand its wastewater treatment system. The total project cost is $21,430,000.
