Description:

Piedmont CC is seeking assistance from Golden LEAF to expand existing training programs offered through the Workforce Certification Academy (WCA) by implementing a combined Certified Logistics Technician and Forklift Certification program, enhancing the Certified Production Technician Program, and developing 2 new courses (hydraulics and Pneumatics) at the request of local employers. The WCA develops and delivers training in direct response to hiring trends and projected job openings reported by local employers and workforce agencies. The Certified Production Technician (CPT) certificate program will be revised to include forklift training at the request of employers of WCA graduates and offer a new Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) certification course. Both the CPT and CLT certificates are 3rd party credentials of the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council. The CPT is also endorsed by the National Association of Manufacturers. Five companies have written support letters indicating intent to create up to 390 jobs over a 3 year period. Funds are requested to purchase a forklift and other training equipment, support instructional positions, pay student certification fees and support services, and cover professional development, staff training, class materials and travel.
