Project Jordan

Organization:
City of Kannapolis
Amount:
$332,179.75
Program Area:
Economic Catalyst Program
County of Applicant:
Cabarrus
Year:
2014
Description:

Gordon Food Service, the 4th largest food distribution company in the United States, is locating a new 300,000-square-foot distribution center in Cabarrus County, NC which will employ 275 new workers by the end of 2019, paying an average annual wage of at least $45,000 plus benefits, including employee-only health insurance. The company will make a capital investment of approximately $58 million. The company requires redundant road access to its building to minimize potential disruption of its distribution services, but the project site is at the end of a dead-end road. The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the City of Kannapolis to connect the public road that serves the project site to an existing, nearby state-maintained road to create the required additional access. Golden LEAF funds will be used for expenses related to public road construction.
