Project Press

Organization:
County of Surry
Amount:
$200,000.00
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:
Surry
Year:
2013
Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Surry County to improve public sewer infrastructure. The infrastructure serves a Weyerhauser mill in the county that currently has 134 full time employees who earn an average wage of $18.27/hr. The mill has been using spray fields for its wastewater disposal, but because the system is aging, the mill needs to connect to municipal sewer in order to maintain operations. Construction of this public infrastructure will allow the mill to retain its employment level in the county. Golden LEAF funds will be used for public infrastructure costs.
