Description:

This grant provides funding to Richmond County to renovate and equip a facility that will be a food center that serves Richmond and surrounding counties. A feasibility study funded by Moore County identified strong demand for local foods from businesses in Pinehurst and other nearby communities. The center will allow local farmers and entrepreneurs to take advantage of that demand to grow their businesses. The center will house food-processing and storage equipment and will be used by Cooperative Extension to provide educational services to farmers. The County will lease the facility to farmer cooperatives and others that want to use the equipment.
