Amount:
$74,049.77
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:
Forsyth
Year:
2010
Description:

The purpose of this project is to provide funds to acquire woodworking equipment and tools to be used in the new woodworking studios at the renovated Sawtooth School in order to meet the growing demands for arts education programs in the region. The demand for training in woodworking at the school has increased since the loss of the fine woodworking program at Rockingham Community College. With the support of Golden LEAF and others, Sawtooth School will be able to increase by 50% the number of students served while offering new and exciting arts-based education services for the greater-Forsyth County area. In addition, the increased space will enable the Sawtooth School to implement a new Certificate Program that will be designed for those adult students who wish to pursue advanced courses of study toward a professional career in the arts.
