Description:

This grant provides funding to the Southeast Education Alliance to establish an alternative teacher preparation program to address the growing teacher shortage facing school districts in southeastern North Carolina. The program will initiate a teacher pipeline program in rural, high-need schools to improve the quality of lateral-entry teachers and overall teacher retention through rigorous coursework and support from experienced instructional coaches, including mentoring and peer-learning networks. It is anticipated the program will support at least 50 new teachers annually and assist teachers that have completed the program to improve retention rates. The project will serve the following school districts: Brunswick, Carteret, City of Clinton, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Sampson, and Wayne. Funds will be used for program design, materials, contracted services, training expenses, marketing and domestic travel.
