The purpose of this grant is to help the Sampson Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) Family Medicine Residency program provide additional opportunities for residents to practice, and increase the number of primary care physicians locating to rural, underserved NC communities. Having been approved by the American Osteopathic Association for 18 residency positions, SRMC anticipates its first class of six residents in July 2016 with 18 filled residency positions established by July 2018. SRMC’s residents will rotate through the hospital and primary care clinics in Clinton, Newton Grove, and Roseboro, and will be prepared to fill openings in the region. Golden LEAF dollars will be used for initial costs of access to electronic medical records for the residents, library/lecture resources and references, and some equipment costs.
