Tabor City WWTP Improvements

Organization:
Town of Tabor City
Amount:
$510,000.00
Program Area:
Disaster Recovery Grant Program
County of Applicant:
Columbus
Year:
2020
Description:

During Hurricane Florence, Tabor City’s wastewater treatment plant was inundated with floodwaters, which over-topped the influent pump station located near the entrance to the facility and flooded the chlorine contact basin. Improvements to the plant were underway, however resilient improvements at the pump station had not been considered. After further evaluation, the city determined to address future flooding by replacement of the above-ground pumps with submersible type pumps and elevation of the electrical panels, pump controls, and access to the panels well above the 100-year flood level. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used to support the increased project costs and resilient improvement of the pump station and other infrastructure at the wastewater treatment plant. Other state grant and loan funds will be used to complete the project.
