Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the Rockingham County Public for the construction of a new branch library in western Rockingham County that will consolidate the two smaller library sites in the towns of Madison and Mayodan. Each branch is currently open only three days a week and staff shifts back and forth between the sites. The new library site will merge the two operations and be open six days per week. The new library will provide greater access to the internet and provide adult programs targeted toward obtaining job skills, basic education and access to health programs. Goals for the project and the new library include reducing joblessness, increasing literacy, computer literacy and health literacy. Golden LEAF funds will leverage over $1.7 million that has been contributed to the project from Rockingham County, Town of Madison, Town of Mayodan, the Western Friends of the Library group, and the Rockingham County Public Library system.
