Description:

The Specialty Crops Program is a cooperative venture between NC State University and the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Marketing Division. The objective of the program is to identify new crops, value-added products, and agricultural enterprises and provide the research, marketing support, and grower education to make those crops or products profitable. The Golden LEAF Foundation provided a grant last year to expand the program beyond the Global Transpark Zone in eastern North Carolina to other regions of the state. This grant will be used to establish a satellite office in the southern mountains, expand the scope of crops, value-added products and agricultural enterprises studied and developed by the SCP, and continue outreach to farmers.
