The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Bertie County Schools to lease laptops over a 4 year period for distribution to all students and teachers, grades 9 -12, in the county, cover software licensing for the devices, install wireless access points at one new high school, and assist with professional development for teachers. Bertie County Schools will contribute approximately $156,434 over the grant term to purchase laptop cases, provide stipends to teachers participating in training, cover the costs of additional professional development and training materials, allow reimbursement for teacher travel and subsistence necessary to participate in training, and to support access to the Internet after hours for students without access to the Internet at home. The district is also committed to covering the annual lease for devices after year 4 to sustain the initiative, which totals approximately $130,000 per year for 1,000 devices.
